How I build a voice agent demo for one prospect
Over four months as a consultant for a voice AI platform, I built more than 20 voice agent demos. Two of the prospects who saw them signed on as customers. Each demo was built for one prospect and the calls that prospect actually handles, so no two were the same.
A US company is the clearest example. They wanted an agent that could call their existing customers and also pick up inbound calls. Their customer data lived in Salesforce, so I connected the demo to it: the agent pulled the customer’s record before the conversation started and wrote the outcome back to Salesforce when the call ended. That meant the demo ran on the same kind of data their team would use if they bought it.
Most demos needed some mix of the same pieces. I built outbound calls and inbound calls, conversations in more than one language, handing the call over to a person, and booking appointments. The prospect decided which of those mattered; my job was to make that version work.
Testing a voice agent by reading its prompt doesn’t tell you much, because the problems show up in the conversation itself. I used Cekura, a platform for testing voice agents, to run test calls against the agents before a demo.
I didn’t run the sales conversation. The platform’s sales team did that, but I was on the calls when the demos were shown, so I heard the prospect’s questions myself. The US company signed an annual contract.
